One of two things, either you (freeride or another mod), is actually offended because of your religious/moral beliefs, or it's all about the kids.
If you think **** or **** is gonna scar kids for life you're very confused.
That is all.
See you cunts next winter.

IMO, the internets is not a place for children. Those who think it is are deluding themselves. Even the best censorware is no match for a curious mind. Either this board is a resource for it's members, or a nice safe place for p@ssers-by. Pick one.
I'll shut up now.
Edit: God, I have to use l33tspeak just to make myself understood. That's fu(ked.

It's not about cencorship, it's about keeping it moderately readable.

I've been reading other sites lately (like spiltboard.com and TAY) and there is little or no profanity. That does make those forums more readable and inviting for new members. In contrast. this site has really gotten away from "that cool little snowboarding place" to sit back and talk about riding and has become more aggressive and mean. I would really like this site to get back to being more inviting to new members and if that means we lose some along the way, so be it.
Besides, it's Freeride's board. He pays for it so he calls the shots.

We will work on making the filters "exact" rather than "loose" so people can express themselves a bit better.
I'm also open to removing them if we police ourselves a bit better, but word after word in the titles of threads really leaves a bad impression for a lot of people.
I support what Sketchy said, and want the community to remain welcoming to all.

I'll flip it however, I got it like that, don't even trip.
Kids know more "swear words" than you, anyways...they know more than you, they know more than your computer cusser-blocker... And they're always making them up... so really, you can get the four nine three eleven...
kinda sucks (
skeet skeet skeet
all over ya earth's crusty power U
and maybe superman too
blud it's gonna be hard to get rid of them swears, and to get rid of them in a consistent manner...can one dude get away with a f-bomb every once in awhile, whereas a dennis rodman cussword-droppa like --oh um iono, me-- get special treatment?
Provisions for dropping the hottest poo you ever read on the net? Daily monthly and yearly?
can't be worth it.
and if anyone that thinks "cussing" makes speech "meaner"... not even: if anything, it makes it less mean, because the person using some catch-all "****" word isn't really getting down to the nitty. Nor the gritty. When I have to use the exact word, it can get really mean... cussing don't make it mean, the writer does. If anything, cussing makes it less mean, because you can dismiss the comment just that much more easily: "yeah, whatever, F U too."
but yeah, "the kids" is a false argument, that makes no sense. They're making new words up, fer chrissakes!
I've always treated the net like I treat real life...I never believed they couldn't come find me, somehow...never believed it was anonymous...never WANTED it to be, really. It was always a way to meet more new real people, and reconnect with old real people.
and checkit:
there's nothing more obscene than the helmeted steven's skiers you got on here...NOTHING.
beleedat
but yeah, post up all the bannt words, if it really is about the words. Post it for one day and then take it down, so none of these fragile kids can read it...
If it's about something else, just ask the person to leave. I'd've left voluntarily the one time I got bannt, I'm cool with "hey this is my site, I don't want you on there." That's fine with me. Wack, but fine.
Also cool with, "hey, don't use these words." Just don't use them as an excuse for something else, izallimsayn... Or do, I guess, as it is your site...
LOL

I'm not anti- "*****" as much as I'm anti- "took your word and posted something else"... unless it's a solid inside joke... omission or the *#$%** are both WAY better than substituting something weak in there...

I too think the excessive IMHO profanity is beneath this site as a whole. We're not all a bunch of post pubescent kids who think they have something to prove on the web so it really is pointless and a waste of time. No matter what censorship is applied.
Anyone who spews profanity here just because they can goes way down in my respect points. If you are no longer 13, stop acting like you are. (Duke is of course exempt from this.)
It is about snowboarding and community and name calling for name calling's sake, etc divides the community and doesn't bring it together. Which is contrary to the intent of the site. Sop, I'm 100% with Freeride here. (And, we don't always agree.)
And, Spicoli, the wheels definately are turning. It's mtb season now! So, I rarely ever come over here now and won't really until September again. When I'm trying to sell stuff....

Oldschool AGREES with Freeride, thinking that we shouldn't work blue... But his reason for no-cussing is that we're NOT kids!
I do have a lot to learn... on the one hand, the cussing is hurting the kids; and on the other, the cussing is childlike.
but you cannot make anyone exempt, that's all I care about...have a rule and make everyone follow it. You break, you bye.
but hey, here we go...keep it together...okay checkitout:
Hey guy's! This season was awesome! Great rideing with all of you, at Alpy and also at other resorts! Im doing well and loving summer! Or what passes for summer these day's! Wowee its really something isnt it? I mean isnt it! I cant wait to brake out the boards again next season and have some more great times! So, basically, it's all Doughboy's fault. I knew it!
Personally, I am all in favor of mods doing whatever they like. That's how I run my mailing lists, and that's the way it should be. So, you know, filter away. That said, though, if you want this to be TAY, then you should probably slap something like this on here:
Turns All Year Trip Reports Terms of Use:
You agree, through your use of Turns All Year Trip Reports, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law. This is not only not humorous, but legal actions can be taken against you. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or you have consent from the owner of the copyrighted material.
BLAM! That'll shut those fuc... I mean, that'll shut those, uh, people up.

Oldschool and Freeride agreeing? I think hell just froze over.
Like it was said earlier it's Freeride's site and we get to play here too. For a place to swear a lot the OMLB fourms are for you. Nobody is having whole posts censored it's just a word here and there. We should be able to work within the filters and still get a point across. And when all else fails we can always try our hand at Duke-ese.
Now let's get back to the real discussion. Who's better, Burton or K2?

Dude, you're like snowboardings equivalent of futckintg danny taylor, you so straight. I don't really give a fcuk you cool to ride with. But I fcuking cuss, a lot. Don't like it? Guess what fcuk you too. There we go, that was the first name calling. What happened was freeride censored **** and changed my thread title from the **** thread to the bullrider thread. WTF? What the fcuk. Talk about getting your gdoddam panties up in a twisted little bunch. Seriously it's fcuking stupid also. I am pretty much done posting here. Have fun with your little straight edge fantasy fcukfest.

I like to think of Jesus as an Ice Dancer, dressed in an all-white jumpsuit, and doing an interpretive dance of my life.
like to think of Jesus like with giant eagles wings, and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk!
Help me Jesus! Help me Jewish God! Help me Allah! AAAAAHHH! Help me Tom Cruise! Tom Cruise, use your witchcraft on me to get the fire off me!

I've written bad word filters, and you can always make a new variation.
I do support the mods, in ensuring there are no personal attacks.
I know I swear all the time, but try and keep it contained in front of my kids, that is I guess why I censure myself a wee bit, but do understand the some of those explicatives add to the emotion of a post.
overall no biggie, we should keep it decent, mods maybe got overzealous, oh well.....
doughboy.... don't sink to panty twisted outlook in response... you are much smarter than that.
remember... it's all good.
